Kingston Beach Access Ramp
Kingston Beach Access Ramp - NatureTREAD™
Kingston Beach, Tasmania – Kingborough Council initiated a project to improve access for visitors to Kingston Beach. This included a beach ramp, level pedestrian crossing and new disability parking spaces. Understanding that people living with disability or limited mobility should have equitable and easy access to services and facilities, these new access implements were designed to encourage wheelchair users to enjoy the sand and waves. People with prams and those who have trouble navigating stairs will also enjoy ease of access to the beach.
Treadwell was engaged to supply the FRP products for this beach access ramp.
Project Challenges
- The beach access ramp had to accommodate fluctuations in the sand level from tides and storms.
- Ramp had to be pram and wheelchair friendly.

- Ramp complies with AS 1428 standards.
- The openings of the GratEX® FRP Mini Mesh allows for water and debris to fall through, creating a self-maintaining anti-slip surface.
- The lightweight nature of FRP means that heavy machinery is not required for installation. This also minimises the weight loading of the entire structure on the environment.
- GratEX® FRP grating is constructed as a large single piece panel, ensuring a uniform surface, without large gaps between panels.
