Baxter-Sommerville Trail

Baxter- Sommerville Trail - NatureTREAD™

The Baxter-Somerville Trail forms part of the Peninsula Trails Project, a $7.7 million initiative delivering a 170km network of connected trails across the Mornington Peninsula. Designed to improve safety, and strengthen connections between local communities, this trail gives people a safe and scenic way of getting around. This trail network enables pedestrians, walkers and cyclists to travel from Central Melbourne through to Balnarring.

As a part of this infrastructure project, JA Carpentry was engaged to construct a boardwalk, and they selected Treadwell as its trusted FRP partner. Treadwell provided the design, manufacture and supply of the FRP products – delivering a lightweight, low-maintenance solution ideally suited to the demanding outdoor environment.

Project Challenges

  • Boardwalk was installed along a railway track and posed installation challenges.
  • Custom handrails systems were required.
  • Being installed over dense swampy and soft ground, the weight loading of the structure was one of the key considerations.
