Mount Bold Viewing Platform
Mount Bold Viewing Platform - NatureTREAD™
Mount Bold, South Australia – Visitors to South Australia’s largest reservoir will now be able to enjoy expanded recreational access. There is a trail network of over 13 kilometres of trails to explore on foot, suitable for all fitness levels. Visitors can look forward to enjoying a picnic, and taking in the natural flora and fauna of the environment. A new viewing platform has also been installed, showcasing panoramic views.
Treadwell was engaged to design, Engineer and supply the FRP products for this new viewing platform.
Project Challenges
- As a structure exposed to the outdoor elements, the selected products had to have low thermal conductivity as well as anti-slip properties to ensure user safety.
- Selected products had to be able to withstand corrosion.
- The structure had to present minimal maintenance requirements.

NatureTREAD™
- Treadwell’s Recreational Public Infrastructure FRP products are constructed from premium resin systems, with a fire retardant formula, as well as include corrosion resistant properties.
- FRP naturally has low thermal and electrical conductivity.
- The small aperture in GratEX® FRP Mini Mesh Grating panels allow for dirt and debris to fall through, and creates a self-maintaining anti-slip surface, while being high-heel safe.
- FRP is lightweight, presenting multiple costs savings in logistics and transportation, and can be installed by hand, minimising the need for heavy machinery.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
