Randwick Environment Park Boardwalk
Randwick Environment Park Boardwalk - NatureTREAD™
Randwick, New South Wales – A new boardwalk completes the 1.2km loop around Randwick Environment Park. This boardwalk was built to replace the dilapidated dirt track and provide ease of accessibility to all users, including the use of strollers, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. This elevated design allows for flora and fauna to thrive or pass through under it.
Treadwell was engaged to design and supply the FRP structural sections, grating, handrail balustrades and related fixings for this project.
Project Challenges
- The boardwalk had to be able to be wheelchair friendly.
- Sustainability and minimal impact on the surroundings were key requirements.
- The design and material had to allow the native flora and fauna to thrive.

NatureTREAD™
- Treadwell’s FRP products are constructed from premium resins with corrosion resistant and fire retardant properties, as well as UV inhibitors.
- The openings in GratEX® FRP Mini Mesh grating allows for water and debris to fall through, creating a self-maintaining anti-slip surface, while allowing ventilation and sunlight through for the vegetation beneath to thrive.
- The lightweight nature of FRP ensures minimal impact on the surroundings as installation is done without heavy machinery, and there is minimal loading on the natural environment.
- Any variance on task is easily managed with hand tools, without the need for a hot works permit.
- FRP is durable, and has a long design life. This means it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
