Hickson Street Walk Track
Hickson Street Walk Track - NatureTREAD™
Part of the Glenrock State Conservation Area, Hickson Street leads to a lookout area allowing you expansive views of the beach. It is a common sight to catch hang gliders above, and go on the numerous biking and walking trails. As an area popular for outdoor activities, Treadwell was engaged by our client to design and supply a lightweight, non-slip and durable NatureTread™ Solution to provide safe access to the beach.
Project Challenges
- Corrosive coastal environment.
- Track had to be non-slip for public safety.
- Due to access constraints, the material had to be lifted in by helicopter.
- Remote location meant any variance on task had to be completed onsite.
Project Information
Project Category: Recreational Public Infrastructure

NatureTREAD™
- Treadwell provided our FRP composite posts, bearer and joists, including GratEX® mini mesh grating for the main walkway as well as a complete FRP stair solution.
- Due to the lightweight nature of FRP, the material was able to be heli-lifted to the site location, which was not accessible by vehicles.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- The project will provide safe, non-slip access for the public for years to come and require no maintenance or upkeep which can be costly with traditional materials.
