Emu Bay Watercraft Access

Emu Bay Watercraft Access – NatureTREAD™

Kangaroo Island boasts incredible scenery, which contributes to its significant tourism industry. With a long list of things to do, recreational boating is one of the key activities. After being in operation for over two decades, it was deemed that the Emu Bay boat ramp required an overhaul.

The new ramp was designed to include better ramp and roadway access, as well as two stepped jetties. These jetties required structural profiles, decking and handrails. Treadwell was engaged to provide the FRP solution in the construction of these jetties.

Project Challenges

  • Structure would be under constant exposure to the harsh marine environment.
  • Had to be able to maintain its structural integrity in corrosive coastal conditions.
  • Difficulty in setting up and laying of structure as it was highly dependent on weather.
  • Structure had to withstand wave loading.
  • Maintenance had to be kept at a minimum as it was in a high public traffic area.
