Cattana Wetlands Jetty
Cattana Wetlands Jetty - NatureTREAD™
Once a sugar cane farm and sand mining quarry, Cattana Wetlands has since been transformed into the nature conservation park enjoyed today. An area teeming with plant and birdlife, visitors can walk through the feather palm forest, and catch a glimpse of the native wildlife of the freshwater and saltwater lakes in the area.
A new jetty was installed at Jabiru Lake, to protect the wetlands from traffic, while also affording visitors a resting space as well as a viewing point. Treadwell was engaged to supply the decking and structural profiles.
Project Challenges
- Structure would be in an exposed marine environment.
- Installation was subject to weather conditions.
- General construction access in a high traffic area.

NatureTREAD™
- As part of the Treadwell NatureTREAD™ range, high performance GratEX® FRP Micro Mesh grating was specified in building the structure as a preferred solution over traditional materials.
- ArchitEX™ structural profiles provided the foundation of the structure.
- Treadwell FRP products include UV inhibitors and fire retardant additives, making it ideal for this outdoor environment.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Being lightweight and easy to install, FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
