Aldinga Beach Access Staircase
Aldinga Beach Access Staircase - NatureTREAD™
The City of Onkaparinga recently upgraded the Thomas Street Reserve at Aldinga Beach. Aldinga Beach is one of Adelaide’s most popular southern Beach locations. However, in view of allowing people to access the beach without disturbing the dunes and vegetation, it was necessary for a staircase to be installed.
Treadwell Group was engaged to assist in the design, engineering and supply of a Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) staircase.
Project Challenges
- Protection of the sand dunes.
- Corrosive coastal environment.
- FRP piles had to be friction driven for environmental protection reasons.

NatureTREAD™
- As part of the exclusive NatureTREAD™ range, high performance GratEX® FRP grating was specified in building the structure and providing a sustainable solution over traditional materials.
- To make the structure aesthetically appealing, the standard colours of the system can be made to match the design team’s requirements.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Being lightweight and easy to install, FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Give the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, thus keeping maintenance costs as low as possible.
