Baigup Wetlands
Baigup Wetlands - NatureTREAD™
Bayswater, WA – The Baigup Wetlands is surrounded by Western Australia’s beautiful rivers coming from the east end of Mayland Peninsula to Garatt Road Bridge. Baigup Wetland Reserve has been subject to the protection under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 this is to preserve the wetland’s wealthy vegetation and eco habitats that served as homes from several bird breeds.
The wetland reserve has undergone site upgrades and as part of the development, new boardwalks were installed. Treadwell was engaged to provide the FRP structural profiles and grating panels for this project.
Project Challenges
- Structure had to be corrosion resistant being installed in an outdoor coastal environment.
- Being an ecologically important location, installation had to be done without negatively impacting the natural surroundings.
- Decking had to be anti-slip for user safety.

NatureTREAD™
- Treadwell FRP products are constructed from premium resins, with corrosion resistant properties, UV stabilisers and fire-retardant additives, making it ideal for this outdoor application.
- FRP is lightweight and can be installed without the need for heavy machinery, minimising any impact on the natural surroundings.
- The aperture in the grating allows sunlight, rain and other elements to fall through, enabling native flora and fauna to thrive. This also eliminates the risk of stagnant debris, allowing for a self-maintaining anti-slip surface.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
